Recruitment FAQs

  • Official NCAA recruiting contact cannot begin until September 1 of a player’s junior year of high school. However, preparation starts much earlier—building fundamentals, academics, highlight film, and exposure through tournaments and showcases.

  • Coaches evaluate athletic ability (speed, stick skills, game IQ), academic performance, work ethic, and character. They want players who will be a strong fit both on and off the field.

  • Yes—grades are extremely important. Strong academics give you more opportunities across all divisions and make you a more attractive recruit.

  • Division I is the most competitive and time-intensive, with athletic scholarships available. Division II also offers athletic scholarships but with more balance between athletics and academics. Division III does not offer athletic scholarships, but financial aid and academic scholarships are often available.

  • The best way is through game film, tournament exposure, and proactive communication. Email coaches with your highlight reel, academic information, and schedule. Attending prospect days and showcases can also help.

  • Yes—highlight reels are one of the most effective tools to get on a coach’s radar. Film should showcase your skills, lacrosse IQ, hustle plays, and versatility.

  • Absolutely. While early experience can help, many athletes who start later still get recruited through hard work, athleticism, and dedication to improving quickly.

  • A verbal commitment is a non-binding agreement between a player and coach. Signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during your senior year makes the commitment official if you are receiving an athletic scholarship.
